Bethany House of EAMC is the only inpatient facility of its kind in southeast Alabama and was the first freestanding inpatient hospice in the state. In 1999, the EAMC Foundation sponsored a major capital campaign to raise funds for the establishment of a hospice house. The community, EAMC staff members, and residents of Lee County, along with several charitable foundations and corporate sponsors, raised over $800,000.00 to build the new home. McCauley Architectural Associates of Birmingham, AL, worked with East Alabama Medical Center and with Hospice to create a warm home-like environment in the new residence. The new residential unit was named Bethany House, and opened in November 2000. Bethany House is a ten-bed facility that provides short term care during medical crises, for short periods of respite, and for patients who need a place of comfort and a caring community to make a peaceful transition.
Bethany House hosts a memorial service once a month to honor loved ones at our Tree Leaf Service. Families can secure an engraved memorial gold leaf, placed in honor of their loved one, on the “living tree” that makes its home in the Bethany Chapel. This service is a wonderful celebration of life, led by our own Hospice Chaplains. This service allows personal reflection and sharing about the people that they cared so much about, and to honor them in a very real and lasting way.
Bethany House is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) |
